Thermite Copper Mixture / Thermomixture

Copper Thermite Mixture is used to weld electrochemical protection leads to the pipelines with min 5 mm walls and up to 1,420 mm diameter. Welding with mixtures is performed at the time of main pipeline functioning, under pressure, with no break in oil and gas transportation. Steel low carbon (6 – 12 mm in diameter), copper (3 -6 m in diameter) rods are used as electrochemical protection leads welded with thermomixture. Copper thermomixture contains copper oxide and is purposefully prepared for the welding operations at the steel pipelines. It is necessary to increase the amount of the emitted thermal energy to improve the quality of the welding seam. That is why thermite mixture contains ferrosilicium. Ready-to-use mixture composition patented by the manufacturer consists of:

• 70% copper oxide;
• 12% copper power;
• 10% aluminum;
• 8% ferrosilicium (or ferromagnesium).

Principle of Thermomixture-based Welding

Thermal energy of oxidation-reduction thermochemical reaction is employed in thermite welding. Composition from metal elements is heated to high temperatures and is melted to join with the pipeline surface and with electrochemical protection leads, thus forming a strong unbreakable corrosion resistant joint. It is important to understand that only one thermite mixture is not enough to buy. Welding requires melting molds with an ignition set.

Delivery Package and Storage of Copper Thermomixture

• Thermite mixture is packed in 1 kg water tight polypropylene jars. The mixture is also delivered with an iron rod to consolidate the mixture in a melting mold and with a measuring cup.
• Copper thermite mixture is stored away from heating devices at max +30°C and in a dry place (with max humidity 80%).
